ELLIS COUNTY – Weather permitting, the following traffic impacts are scheduled in Red Oak on I-35E between Bear Creek Road and Red Oak Road as part of an ongoing improvement project: FRIDAY, AUG. 28 All I-35E southbound lanes, including the frontage road, will close and detour from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. ELLIS COUNTY – Following the unexpected death of Ellis County Treasurer Cheryl Chambers on Aug. 18, the Ellis County GOP was left with the need to put a new name on the ballot and with little time to do it. Chambers was the unopposed Republican nominee for the Nov. 3 election for Ellis County Treasurer. Ellis County Judge John Wray’s office said of Chambers and her passing, “Ellis County has been blessed with dedicated public servants and county leaders who have committed themselves to serving our community.
ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County and District Attorney’s office has stepped aside from prosecuting Precinct 2 Commissioner Matthew Zajic. FERRIS – The dream of Lee Longino was realized on Aug. 18, 2026, with a groundbreaking ceremony that marked the beginning of a new classroom addition at Lee Longino Elementary School. During this event, Principal Christy Murphy conveyed a heartfelt message about upholding the legacy of Lee Longino. ELLIS COUNTY – There is a $20 million question mark in Ellis County. It appears to have risen to the surface during the contentious current new fiscal year budget conversations. And while there is much speculation and talk by those in the know, those who want to be in the know and those who are trying to determine the know, currently there are no real answers. At last week’s Ellis County Commissioners Court many concerned spoke on the topic. At least one resident I spoke to, Randy Bellomy, suggested a forensic audit.

ELLIS COUNTY – Todd Little, the former Ellis County Judge appointed to lead the North Central Texas Council of Governments in May 2025, left his position last week after a meeting of the group’s executive board, which now includes five Tarrant County leaders. The executive director of the Arlington-based government organization is out of his job months after he fired an influential North Texas transportation director – a move that spurred legal action and led to the director’s reinstatement.
